According to Daily Nations Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot is set to become a law maker
after he won a parliamentary seat in the just concluded elections in
Nigeria.
On Sunday, Nigerian media reported that Elliot, who ran on an
All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket, floored his opponent Mr Bayo Smith of
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) raking in 23,141 against to his rival’s 12,546
votes to clinch the Surulere Constituency seat.
A Nigerian online magazine quoted an Independent National
Electoral Commission (Inec) official “That Desmond Olusola Elliot of APC having
satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is
hereby declared winner and is returned elected.”
On his Twitter account @deselliot, the 41-year old actor with
199,000 Twitter followers shared celebratory photos, and retweeted posts
celebrating his triumphant entry into politics.
The acclaimed actor took to his Facebook page to brush aside
allegations that he bribed authorities to take the constituency seat.
